One of my professors told me recently “You aren’t in the drivers or passengers seat when you write a story. The characters are in the drivers seat and they’ve locked you in the trunk” and I mean he’s not wrong.

there’s nothing new under the sun and no medium gives less of a shit about that than fanfiction. maybe bc of its “derivative” nature, fanfiction writers/readers show an unironic, open appreciation for tropes that you’ll never find in mainstream communities. like, a film critic would say “this movie just took the cast of stargate sg1 and put them in the plot of aliens” and the fanfic community would be like “ok where’s the 100k fic op”. i have read approximately 2300 fics of the same two characters falling in love bc there was only one bed and no one has the power to stop me from reading more?? anyway, fanfiction is an absolute paradigm of post-post-modernism and in this essay i will,

Is it normal to feel more energetic, but also more anxious when starting vitamin b complex? Taking it for adhd bc I'm still waiting for my assessment, also have panic disorder which is medicated and diagnosed

One of the reasons I can’t take a b complex for my numerous b vitamin deficiencies is because niacin (b3) makes my anxiety go sky high. The amount in the complex formulations are just too high for me. It’s a pain in the ass but I take all my b’s separately to avoid it.

Usual disclaimer: I’m not a doctor just a sick bitch with a lot of weird stuff going on. Talk to your doctor about any concerns etc, etc.

Hope your assessment goes well!

Large doses of niacin have been used as the placebo in scientific trials involving psychotropic drugs, because it will produce mild but noticeable mental and physical effects. You can’t use a normal placebo because people will damn well notice if, for example, their “psilocybin” pill does nothing at all, and that will ruin the point of having a control group. So you give them a whacking big dose of niacin and they feel odd and tingly and their face gets flushed and they can plausibly believe they might have gotten the real drug.

This is called an “active placebo” and depending on what you are testing, other things might be used instead (for example a mild sedative combined with a non-opioid painkiller if you are testing against an opioid).

Fascinating. Thank you.

Corporate trainings are literally like

“A woman and her child are having trouble finding a product in the vitamin aisle, what can you do to help her?”

1. Kill the kid.

2. Kill the parent, leave the child motherless.

3. Use the CARING® Strategy and our TRICUS™ Customer Experience Method to make sure she gets everything she wants at the correct price.

4. Leave her alone, she doesn’t want to be bothered.

And #3 is of course the correct answer according to the training, but in real life #4 is the correct answer 99% of the time
